A taste of the activities we provide for Home Learning through Seesaw…
2 to 3 Year Old Children
Please read the short explanation and click on the video to complete the activity.
This is the Bear: You might like to go and find your favourite teddy bear or soft toy to cuddle with while listening to our story. We hope you enjoy it and when you have finished, you might help your grown up to sort your rubbish and recycling. It is really important to look after our environment and recycle materials.
The stick song: We love to move and dance at nursery. Here is one of our favourite songs. We hope you enjoy joining in with us. You could just clap your hands or use some spoons instead of the sticks.
Monster in the bathroom: In this song we talk about brushing our teeth and washing our body to keep clean. We often sing it in nursery, so you might like to join in. Your grown up will help you with these things at home because it is so important to look after yourself to grow up to be big and strong.
Spider on the floor: Enjoy listening and joining in with our song. Can you find your knees, your tummy and your head? Perhaps you can find your own toy animal and copy where our spiders land.
Dear Zoo: Enjoy listening to the story. Can you guess all of the animals and the noises that they make? Which animals are tall? Which animals are small? Can you find any animals at home in your toys that are the same as the ones in our story? You might like to try moving like some of the animals in the story.
Polly put the kettle on: Why don’t you collect your favourite toys together and have a pretend tea party? Your grown up might help you change the names in the song to your favourite toy…Rhino put the kettle on we’ll all have tea.
Two little dickie birds: Why not use both your first fingers to pretend to be your dickie birds and sing along with our song. Can you say the number names 1 and 2. Can you change the names of the birds from Peter and Paul to something more special for you…perhaps your name. Can you see any birds out your window? Your grown up might help you to count them and talk about the colour of their feathers.
Walking Through the Jungle: Can you copy the animal movements from the story? You might play a game with your grown up guessing the animal from the movement they make. What do you think the animals in the story might like to eat?
Zoom, zoom, zoom song: help us count back from 5 to 1 to join in with our song. When you go to bed tonight have a look outside, can you see the moon. What shape is the moon today? If you look every night you will see how it changes. Can you spot any stars? If you have some boxes at home you could make your own rocket or maybe a rocket for your teddy to use.
Three little ducks: What noise does a duck make? Can you make this noise too? How do ducks move? Can you waddle like a duck? Watch our song and help your grown up to count how many ducks there are each time one disappears.
3 to 4 Year old Children
Please read the short explanation and click on the video to complete the activity.
5 Little Monkeys: Can you copy the actions and join in with our rhyme? We think that your grown up would enjoy listening to your singing.
Down in the Jungle: Can you remember singing this song in nursery? We hope that you can copy the actions and help Barnaby Bear wash his clothes. Can you help to peg out the washing at home (on a sunny day!)?
5 Little Fire Fighters: listen and sing along with us. Can you impress your grownup by counting up to 5 and back again. Can you try counting to 10 and even going beyond this? Your grownup might count along with you. (sound only) You might like to make some fire fighter puppets with your grown up and label these with the numbers 1 to 5. You could use your home learning materials that you received at Christmas to do this.
5 Little Snowmen: We hope that you enjoy singing this song at home. You may have made a snowman at home this winter. Maybe you could use your home learning materials and paint or draw a picture of your snowman to show us. You could use your new scissors to cut out a scarf for your snowman. If you have a garden or yard, you might be able to collect some little sticks and stones to add arms and buttons to your picture.
Dough Disco: Watch our short demonstration video and enjoy joining in from home. Use the playdough you received in your home learning pack to be able to take part from home. Listen carefully and try to follow the instructions and movements to help develop the strength in your fingers and arms for writing. Have fun with your playdough. Follow this link to join in with more dough disco. This is a great activity to repeat at home. The daily exercise will develop your muscles to help with using scissors accurately, filling and pour with different sized containers, holding and using mark making tools.
Tommy thumb: Join in with our lovely song to give your fingers some exercise. Can you copy the actions and use your Tommy thumb, Peter pointer, Toby tall, Ruby ring and Baby small. Have some fun singing along at home.
Kim’s game: Can you find some toys in your home that you can use for this game? To make this a little more difficult can you try removing two items in your game? or can your remove a toy the begins with a certain sound and see if your child can guess what it is? Have some fun experimenting with this game at home
Each Peach Pear Plum: Can you spot some of your favourite characters in our story? Listen very carefully, you may have another story in your home about The Three Bears or Tom Thumb. Do you have a favourite story or nursery rhyme that you could read with your grown up?
Barnaby Bear painting pack: Barnaby Bear is enjoying using the creative materials that he received from nursery. Have you made any pictures with your pack to show us in nursery? Your teacher would love to see them.
Itchy Bear and positional language: We have moved Itchy Bear to different positions in our role play area. We have used our listening ears very carefully and followed instructions to move the bear. Can you find a toy in your home and move it to different areas? Your grown up can help you to listen carefully to the positional language.
Home Learning Letter to Parents – January 2021
Dear nursery parents and carers,
I hope you all remain safe and well.
Due to the current lockdown (January 2021) and many children staying at home we are providing all families with additional activities through a new online platform. We have tried to be creative and have been busy making some fun and interactive, learning opportunities for you to enjoy together. You can access our videos through the Seesaw CLASS app. Please contact us at nursery if you do not have the login details for your child.
We hope you and your child will find Seesaw enjoyable and it will provide you with opportunities for follow up activities to complete at home together. You might like to use some of the materials your child received in their nursery Christmas present for this e.g. the playdoh, painting blocks, pens, pencils, paper, scissors etc.
The learning activities will be divided into two age ranges, 2-3 year old children and 3-4 year old children.
If you have older children who have timetabled lessons, please work around their lesson times to complete activities. You might like to look at our Seesaw home learning later in the day. Your older children may enjoy joining in too.
We hope you enjoy joining us from home, please let us know if you do by posting a message to us on your Seesaw account or on our school twitter account @RosemaryLaneNS or emailing us at rosemary.lane@durhamlearning.net.
